Check-up
A check-up is the regular examination of the teeth, gums, oral lining, existing fillings, prosthetic restorations and the general state of the mouth. Its purpose is to catch problems early – before you feel pain or notice bigger changes.
Early detection of caries. Small carious lesions rarely hurt. At a check-up we can find them early, while treatment is still simple, gentle and carries the best prognosis.
Monitoring the gums. We check for bleeding, inflammation, recession and tartar, and measure probing depths where needed – assessing the risk of gingivitis or periodontitis.
Checking existing fillings, crowns and bridges. Old fillings can leak, crack or develop secondary caries at their edges. With prosthetic work we assess the fit, the hygiene and the state of the supporting teeth.
Monitoring endodontically treated teeth. With root-treated teeth we follow symptoms, sensitivity and the state of the tissues at the root tip, taking a control X-ray where needed.
Detecting changes of the oral lining. We also examine the tongue, cheeks, palate, floor of the mouth and the other soft tissues – catching inflammation, injuries, lesions or other pathological changes in time.
Setting the plan ahead. On the basis of the examination we decide whether you need tartar removal, a filling, periodontal treatment, X-ray diagnostics, prosthetics – or simply the next preventive check-up.
The key point: the check-up exists to find problems early, monitor the stability of past treatment and prevent bigger complications.
