Fillings

Dental fillings are among the most common dental procedures, replacing tooth tissue lost to caries, injury or wear. The purpose of a filling is not merely to close a “hole” in the tooth, but to restore its function, shape and appearance and to stop further decay.

In our practice we use modern composite materials that look natural and can be matched precisely to the colour and shape of your teeth. The aim of modern care is no longer just to treat caries, but to restore the tooth as conservatively and aesthetically as possible.

We place fillings when caries is present, after tooth injuries, or where tooth substance has worn away. Sometimes the reason is the replacement of old, leaking or aesthetically failing fillings.

Catching problems early matters: smaller procedures preserve more healthy tooth structure and prevent the need for more extensive treatment such as crowns or root canal therapy.

Placing a filling today is normally a quick and painless procedure. Where needed we use local anaesthesia, making the treatment entirely comfortable.

Mild sensitivity to cold or to biting may follow, but it usually settles quickly. Most patients return to their normal day immediately after the appointment.

We first isolate the tooth from the rest of the mouth, since moisture prevents the composite from bonding properly. The damaged or infected tissue is then removed and the tooth carefully prepared. The composite is applied gradually, in several layers, allowing precise shaping of the tooth and reducing the chance of post-operative sensitivity.

We pay particular attention to the correct shape of the tooth and the bite – a good filling must be not only beautiful but functional and durable.

The lifespan of a filling depends on its size, on oral hygiene, eating habits and the load the tooth carries. With proper care and regular check-ups, modern composite fillings can serve for many years.

Good oral hygiene and regular dental visits remain important, as they allow us to catch any changes or wear in time.

Modern white composite fillings give a very natural result. The material is matched to the colour and translucency of the natural tooth, so the filling is often nearly invisible.

Beyond aesthetics, modern materials also have excellent mechanical properties, allowing a lasting, reliable restoration while preserving as much healthy tooth substance as possible.
